Misalnya :

a. While I was bathing in the river I heard a fearful cry.

b. When you called me, I was listening to the radio.

c. They were talking about sports when I met them.

Digunakan untuk menyatakan perbuatan yang sedang terjadi pada waktu lampau.

Misalnya :
a. He was watching television all afternoon yesterday.
